How to Manage Stress Naturally!

Oct 01, 2020

We all know that too much stress can cause a lot of problems. Feeling anxious, on edge, and scattered is something we all will experience from time to time. To prevent feeling overwhelmed, it is important for your mental health to manage stress naturally. Learning what you need when you are in these situations is essential for taking care of yourself mentally and emotionally.

Here are a few tips I use to manage stress:

MEDITATE

Meditation helps to lower blood pressure while centering your mind. It also gives you the opportunity to practice controlling your mind vs letting it control you. This is a huge skill towards being mentally healthy, as having no control over your thoughts and emotions is the first skill you must master when working on yourself.

Whether you enjoy listening to music and focusing on your breath or listening to guided meditation; regardless, the ability to notice that your mind is no longer listening to the meditation or focusing on the breather but in fact, it has begun wondering is the first step towards practicing mindfulness. This will then lead you deeper into awareness and become more conscious.

MAGNESIUM

Those deficient in magnesium have been shown to have higher levels of anxiety as their body is not getting enough magnesium to help regulate their nervous system. With your medical doctor’s guidance, integrating magnesium supplements into your daily routine can help reduce stress and anxiety symptoms.

Finding foods that help calm your nervous system vs adding stress to it is important.

EXERCISE

We all know getting your heart rate up and moving your body is great for your mental and physical health. Take time to go for a walk or make physical exercise apart of your daily routine. This does not have to be a drastic change to your life, it can be something as simple as taking your dog for a walk. It can be gardening, moving around in your backyard. Just getting outside and being in nature to smell the air will begin to boost your mood and relax your soul.

DITCH CAFFEINE

We all know this, but caffeine is a stimulant, and if you are struggling with anxiety and stress, caffeine will magnify feelings of being on edge, jittery, and anxious. While we all at times love the taste of coffee for the time being choose something that will help your mood and make you feel good. Get out of the habits you typically were in that are not helping you right now. It is about making small steps towards taking better care of yourself while you are going through a stressful time in your life.

SLEEP

Your body recovers when you sleep; make sure to get 7–9 hours a night to help your body regenerate for the next day. So often we expect ourselves to always be at 10. We want to be at our peaks selves every day and that is not realistic. No one is ever at a peak state 24/7 and if they are then they will eventually have a breakdown because we all need balance.

Finding balance and taking care of yourself is what we are talking about. Learning how to take better care of ourselves so give yourself an earlier bedtime while you are in this state. Read a book before bed, lose the technically, fall asleep to a meditation, and give yourself some peaceful rest.
