How to Become a Confident Person

Apr 05, 2021

Being a confident person can change your life in many different ways. Confidence is part of self love. There are a few key things that you can focus on to become more confident. While you read these ways, you really need to keep an open mind, be honest with yourself and admit if this is something you really need to work on to help you to become more confident.

Self Love

Appreciating yourself, working on your self talk, and learning how to love yourself are all the first steps. You will know how to distinguish between unhealthy, negative self talk and healthy self talk. Self talk, among many other mental health benefits, will be the number one thing to help you become authentically confident.

We all probably know someone who can carry themselves in a way that makes them appear very confident, but then when you really get to know them, you can see that they have some major insecurities, fear, and internal struggles they haven’t worked on within themselves. They are not authentically loving inside of themselves. Confidence comes from the inside out, and when you really love and appreciate yourself, you will be confident without needing to be mindful of it.

Talk to yourself as if you are your own best friend. The inner dialogue you have with yourself that is kind and loving will help to keep you confident. You need to be able to appreciate your body image, as well as all the qualities that make you who you are. You must be able to catch yourself in any negative moments and practice gratitude. That’s the definition of self love.

Learn How to Slow Yourself Down

It’s always go, go, go. Everyone seems to be on the go more often than not. Our world is so fast paced, so it’s easy to get caught up in what the next step is going to be. Learn the practice of slowing down and living in the moment. Our happiness really is in the present moment.

One great thing to try is practicing walking meditation to help you to be more present in the moment to what you are doing. People are always on their phones and computers and are always thinking about things like the next thing they need to do or the work they need to complete, and not being present to what they are currently doing.

It’s not only about staying mentally present and slowing down, but it’s also about slowing down how you speak that is important. Slow down what you are saying and be comfortable with the silence and the pauses. The pause allows you to relax and that shows confidence. By not rushing your words, you will sound more confident. Love yourself enough to know that slowing down is a great thing.

Be Comfortable Enough to Make Eye Contact and Smile

Making eye contact with people will help make you look and feel confident. Here’s something to try: Next time you are in a store, watch how many people pass by you and look down instead of making eye contact. We are trained to be so addicted to staring at our phones or allowing constant distractions, and aren’t confident enough to make eye contact and smile.

If you are single, how many times do you see someone attractive and instead of making eye contact and smiling, you look away? Smiling at someone shows you are a confident person, which makes you more approachable.

Caring For Yourself In Your Day-To-Day Life

How do you care for yourself in your day-to-day life? What is your body language saying to people? How do you walk or sit — slouching or standing tall? If your body language doesn’t mimic your ability to communicate in a certain way, it doesn’t show you to be the most confident person.

Mirror Work

The mirror is an important time in your day, or it should be. Avoiding yourself in the mirror means you don’t feel worthy. Valuing and appreciating what you see in the mirror is the basics of being healthy. Reciting positive affirmations while looking in the mirror is a great healthy habit to get into.

While this may feel awkward in the beginning, it’s only because you aren’t used to doing it. With time it gets easier and builds your confidence on a conscious and subconscious level. You will eventually get to a place where you love what you see.

Practice all these things daily to build your confidence, and watch how fast your mindset changes. Remember to stand with confidence, slow down whenever you can, live in the moment, make eye contact and smile, and recite your affirmations and watch how fast you become an authentically confident person.
