Taking care of your mental, spiritual and emotional health is just as important as taking care of your physical health. Here are some quick tips to help make you mentally stronger.

Mental Health Crisis Kit

Just like a first aid kit for physical emergencies, a mental health crisis kit can help strengthen your mental and emotional health. Life happens, and there will be times you have some added stress, sadness, anxiety, or fear. It’s part of being human, and you can’t escape it. Understanding who you are and what helps you through the rough times can help you get through them in a healthy way. Your mental health crisis kit should be filled with “in case of emergency” type tools. Make a list of the things that help you through rough times and fill your kit appropriately. Your tool kit can be actual physical items, as well as activities that you know help you out in times of need.

These things can be medications, bath salts, listening to podcasts, working out, resting more, and books that you enjoy. When you are making your list, ask yourself what would help you feel better emotionally, physically, mentally and spiritually. Maybe a book, movie or music would help you mentally. These are the things that should be in your tool kit. It may take some experimentation to figure out just what you need in each situation, and being honest with yourself is vital. This can really help you learn how to take care of yourself in all ways. When you trust that you can handle any situation that arises, you won’t fear being alone or not being in a relationship. This is a very empowering feeling.

Letting Go of theThought of Perfectionism

Mindfulness is always the biggest thing that you can do to help yourself in all areas of life. The thought of perfectionism has to go, because it does not exist. No one is perfect. If you never face a challenge and need to work hard for something, you will never know the amazing feeling that comes from that. It’s super empowering to know you got to the other side of something difficult, and it makes you feel like a badass. So stop being so hard on yourself and let go of the need to want to fix everything about yourself to give the illusion of perfection. We all deserve the love that we give to others, and need to give that love to ourselves.

Change the Outlook on Your Life

If your outlook is bleak because of things going on inside of yourself, such as low self esteem, or tough things you have been through, it’s time to change that outlook. Changing your attitude and mindset means you know and feel that you are going to be OK and have the control to create the life you want for yourself. Sometimes we get stuck in a negative cycle of habitual thinking that doesn’t serve us. Focus on changing your mindset and be aware of the thoughts you are allowing in your head. It’s hard work, but necessary. It will change your entire life and so worth it. It’s hard work to change old habits and programming but it’s absolutely doable. Start the trend of focusing on your mental health every single day and watch how things change for the better.

Self Parenting

The process of having an inner dialogue with yourself is what self parenting is all about. You have fear on one side and the real you on the other side - motivated, knowing you can do anything you want to, and unconditional love. It’s like having a good angel on one side and a bad angel on the other, and you are the mediator in the middle. Being able to understand the process of self parenting will change your life. One way to start the process is to start asking yourself how you are feeling at any point during the day. When you don’t feel well and not coasting through the day, you need to know why.

Journaling is great to unleash what’s really going on. Let the words flow out of you and onto the paper. It’s a therapeutic process that can really help you get to the bottom of where some feelings are coming from. Oftentimes, you’ll find that you haven’t built a relationship with yourself because you haven’t done a lot of the work that’s necessary. Journaling and writing down your feelings can really help you figure out what’s going on in your emotional and mental space. This can really help the inner dialogue within yourself.

Find Healthy Ways to Manage Your Stress Levels

What do you do to help yourself manage your stress? When you’re going through a stressful time, you need to know what will help you get through it in a healthy way. Get into the habit of asking yourself every day - What do I need today? It’s important to always stay in tune with yourself to what you need. That will allow you to be at your best. That in itself is taking care of your mental health.

Invest in Yourself

It’s so important to give yourself time to take care of yourself. Invest in you in whatever ways will make you happy - gym membership, taking a class, hanging out with friends, coaching, new hobby, etc. You deserve it. Love yourself enough to give yourself whatever you want to remind yourself that you are worth it.
